Navigating through the Kanto region in Pokemon FireRed requires traveling across varied terrain and completing critical prerequisites. One of the most important optional destinations is the abandoned Power Plant, home to rare Electric-type Pokemon and valuable items. Knowing the precise route and required hidden moves will ensure your journey to this landmark is efficient and hassle-free.
Essential Prerequisites for the Journey
Before attempting to reach the Power Plant, players must ensure they have acquired HM03 Surf and defeated Koga at the Fuchsia City Gym to use it. Teaching Surf to a compatible Water-type creature in your party is mandatory to navigate the waterway leading directly to the building. It is also recommended to stock up on Repels and Ultra Balls before setting out.
Locating the Route 10 River Entrance
To begin the trek, travel to Route 10, which is situated just south of Cerulean City and right outside the northern entrance of Rock Tunnel. Head towards the Pokemon Center located on Route 10 to establish your starting point. From the healing center, walk north past the tall grass until you reach the edge of the riverbank.
Surfing the Waterway to the Power Plant
At the water's edge, activate Surf to enter the river. Follow the stream around the natural pathway as it curves down and toward the right. Continue following the river south until you spot a patch of land featuring a large industrial structure, which is the Power Plant facility.
What to Expect Inside the Facility
Upon stepping inside, players will encounter numerous wild Electric-type Pokemon, including Voltorb, Magnemite, and occasionally Pikachu or Electabuzz. Be careful when picking up item balls off the floor, as several fake items are actually Voltorb waiting to battle. At the deepest point of the complex, you will encounter Zapdos, one of Kanto's legendary bird Pokemon.
